My name is Brenisha Campbell and my Daughter, Amiyah age 5 has been natural since birth. I didn’t begin to see her natural hair texture until she was about 2 yrs old, before that time her hair grew in straight and then began to curl on the ends. Her hair type requires a lot of maintenance. Her hair is thick and tightly coiled. Every other day I moisture her hair with argan or olive oil and I also apply oil to the ends of her hair with a small amount of pink oil moisturizer from root to tip. I wash her hair once every week and a half. I do not wash her hair every daily because it tends to strip all the moisture from her hair and cause scalp to be dry. I struggled in the beginning about what products to use and how to care for 4c hair. I use a blow dryer with comb attachment to decrease the amount of shrinkage and to slightly straighten hair while blow drying. With much research online I was able to find useful information to assist in our hair journey. Each different texture of hair requires different care and products, you always have to find what works for you hair type or texture. The biggest misconception about learning about natural hair care, is believing that just because it makes the next persons hair, have a certain look, doesn’t mean it will work the same way on you texture. Her everyday hair styles are ponytails or braids. I like these styles because her hair stays sectioned off to keep down tangling and it also keeps hair easy to manage. When my daughter gets a little bit older I will try other natural styles, but for now this works for whats appropriate for her age group.
