Bonsoir, My name is Annalice Weatherly. I have been living in Brooklyn, New York for about ten years, but I am 100% Hatian. I decided to stop perming my hair on July 2013. My hair was always permed for as long as I could remember, and even with the best care provided, it would not give me a break. Going natural was all about finding my true identity. I was never satisfied with my perm hair. When it was not the breakage, it was the extensions, and when it wasn’t those two, it was the several hair cuts. It took me a while to realized the problem was not the straight hair, but it was the fact that it didn’t belong to me. Permed hair for me felt like wearing a nice pair of skinny jeans that I looked great in, but I could not enjoy the look because I knew they didn’t belong to me and sooner or later I would have to return them. That’s when I knew it was time to start my journey. I wanted to feel free, to embrace myself, and to love every part of me. I did the big chop almost two months ago, June 15th 2014, almost a year into transitioning. I love my hair now more than I ever did. Now when I look in the mirror, the reflection that looks back at me is the one I was meant to see, not the one I was trying to create. That to me made whole the whole journey worth it.
