So, since doing a semi-BC, I’ve been practicing ways to do my own hair. One of things I have been practicing is the upwards corn row.
I wrote about this a few days ago and I believe it is a great way to protect the hair while trying to encourage its growth.
I managed, after some practice, to do my own upwards corn rows into a beehive bun.
Basically, I followed the same steps here to do the corn rows. Because my hair is not long enough to put into a beehive, I used some Afro Kinky hair from my left over crochet braids to make the beehive itself.
If you are interested in this simple style, here are the steps I took to achieve it. (Sorry for the unclear pics.)
1. While I did not clean and condition my hair, I recommend you starting on cleaned, conditioned, dried and moisturized hair.
2. Make two parts: one for corn rows in the back and the other for corn rows at the top. Make sure to braid all corn rows into the upper crown of your head where the beehive will go.
3. Put all the braids into one pony tail. Do not make the ponytail tight at all. Try to make a bun
4. Take the pack of Afro Kinky hair and put a thick rubber band or ponytail holder around the hair and then wrap that ponytail holder around the bun from the corn rows.
5. Wrap the hair in small pieces around the bun over and over. Do that until all hair is wrapped into the bun.
6. You may have to secure pieces of the wrapped hair with pins but likely you won’t have to.
Of course, remember to spritz your corn rows with water and oil and wrap you hair with a satin wrap at night.
And there you have it: a quick and easy, pretty protective style for any occasion!
