Finding the perfect hair salon can be like searching for the Holy Grail. In the hunt for a stylist who understood me and the looks that I wanted to achieve, I found shady salons, unfriendly service, ridiculous prices, and stylists with all types of excuses for not giving me the styles that I actually requested. It seems like salons are on every corner, so I just could not understand why this would be such a difficult search? I found myself talking with some of my friends in my natural community to address what the issues were, and hopefully determine what it was that we wanted in a stylist/salon.
Well for me, this much is true; I want a salon/stylist that specializes in natural hair. There is nothing worse, in my opinion, then having someone who is not experienced roaming about my hair. I want a salon/stylist that is going to promote healthier, 98 percent to all natural products. If I believe in this approach at home, why wouldn’t I try to continue this while at the salon? And finally, I want a salon that I can feel welcomed and comfortable in. I want to know that my stylist cares about me and my hair. I also want to know that the salon is not going to break my wallet in the process. It has been a tough quest and I can confirm that I am not the only natural lady to experience this frustration. How many of you have gone to a salon and been told that you have to pay an extra fee for being natural, or that the stylist cannot produce the look you want because your hair is too textured? So you can only imagine how excited I was to try a natural hair salon that one of my friends recommended.
The anticipation and expectations that I had for this salon were high, and unfortunately they were not met. Although I had found a stylist who did a phenomenal job with my hair, she was always between 45 minutes to an hour and a half late. This simply was not good. Her customer service skills were lacking, and I did not feel that the salon had the warmest reception for me whenever I arrived; therefore I had to cease any funds coming from my pocket to her cash register. Why would I spend when I was not satisfied all around with my experience? Unfortunately my hunt for the perfect salon had to continue.
When I was about to give up on the notion and continue to style my own hair, another friend recommended her sister’s natural hair salon. Of course I was reluctant to go, because I had so many other frustrating experiences, but I committed to my quest and decided to head to Kuts &Cuts Natural Hair Gallery. To my surprise, I found my salon experience to be absolutely fantastic! I was greeted by a warm welcome and reassured that I would be taken care of. My stylist was timely and friendly. The entire staff was knowledgeable and offered suggestions for things that I had not even thought of trying. Before I had even finished my shampoo, I realized that with my friend’s help, I had done it! I had found my hair salon “Holy Grail”! I found a place that met my criteria, and made me feel at home. It is truly extraordinary to find everything that you are looking for, not pay an obscene price for the services, and be completely satisfied with the end results. My stylist did a fantastic job on my style. She not only listened to what I was trying to achieve and accomplished the look, she also took the time to get to know me and my daily hair regiment! This was impressive to me because it showed me that she cared and wanted my style to last. I will most definitely continue to go to this salon. So for all my fellow natural ladies, do not give up the search for the salon that fits you the best. Do not give up, because on one of those corners you just may find “YOUR” salon and “YOUR” stylist, so stick it out. The perfect salon is worth the wait!
