Hello my name is Jessica Lewis. I am from Blakely, Ga. I have been going natural for 7 years now, and I love every minute of it.

When I first started going natural I was told no matter how you got here, there is no right or wrong reason to go natural.

I made the first step and here I am with my hair. I went natural because it is healthy for my hair and I can benefit from it. To me, natural brings out the beauty in women. I think that every woman should go natural at least once in her adult life, because caring for natural hair makes you focus on yourself more. Taking care of natural hair often requires setting aside time to properly maintain our tresses, and an added benefit is that it really is time that we spend looking in-ward and being nurturing and loving to ourselves. I have gained knowledge about healthy living on this journey of going natural. Caring for natural hair expands our notions of what is beautiful.

I was born with natural curls, but as I got into my teen years I wanted to be like the other girls in my class and get my hair relaxed. As i got older in my high school days I realized that I wanted my natural curls back, so I started back going natural and that was the best thing I did so far. With natural hair you can style your hair any kind of way, and that’s what I love about my natural hair. Since I am a hair stylist I come up with all types of styles to do, I love wearing my twist outs. You can’t go wrong with a twist out. Just like me, women need to learn what their natural hair is even capable of achieving. I have noticed that a lot of women are going natural today, and I like that because our hair says a lot about us. My journey has been a great one so far, I love my natural hair.  Plus, curls are more fun than straight hair.
