Natural Hair Mag

Charmalee’s Journey

I am currently residing in Wakayama, Japan. My Mom asked that I keep my hair natural as she had and I remain obedient even after she passed away. I have been combing my hair myself from i was 10 years old. In High School i mostly did twists and in summers i did braids. I used Tressemme and VO5 shampoo and conditioner, Jamaican Castor oil and non petroleum products in my hair. Last summer I coloured the ends and was extensively damaged as a result. To recover from the breakage, I dyed it black, cut  some of the ends off and deep conditioned(using 1 egg, mayonnaise, extra virgin olive oil and a yogurt) once a month. I loc my hair in 2008 and have since used Jamaica Mango & Lime products in my hair for grooming as well.

In Japan Summers are brutal with high humidity and It costs alot to take care of my type of hair, thankfully i do so myself. I do short up dos(like the twists and Bantu knots resulting in a bob cut look)for protective styling.  I sometimes wear head band when i get too lazy to regroom. I love the versatility of locs and i wouldn’t trade my natural hair for anything in the world. My spray bottle contains lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, water and apple cider vinegar. This gives it a fresh looks as well as prevent breakage.
