DIY Crochet Braids That You’ll Love

Explore Crochet Braids With Straight or Curly Hair

I think the idea of crochet braids is great. You can accomplish many styles using this unique braiding technique without completely committing to it.

It can be installed easily and taken down just as easily. Crochet braiding is nothing more than corn rolls with hair placed in and through the cornrows.

Crochet braiding is similar to tree braids, braiding corn rolls and adding hair along the way. Additionally, any hair can be used with crochet braids. The most popular type of hair to use with this protective style is curly extensions. However, you can put straight hair in the braids and have more styling options you can do on your own.

Another reason crochet braids are so great is because anyone can do them. You don’t have to go to a salon or your girlfriend’s little sister and pay to have them done. However, you will have to know how to corn roll your own hair or else, you will have to get someone to do it for you.

The more and more women embrace their natural curliness the more they want the curly style. Crochet braiding is a very quick, inexpensive way to do just that. You can buy the hair curly or your can curl it yourself. If you use synthetic hair, you simply have to dip the hair in hot water and allow it to dry.

Crochet braids are one of the healthiest way to establish the style while not doing damage to your real hair. You can still oil and condition your scalp while wearing this protective style so you do not need to worry about neglecting your own hair.

STEPS TO DIY CROCHET BRAIDS

First steps is to assemble your items for doing this style.

  • Hair you’d like (I recommend some type of synthetic curly hair)
  • Curling rods (for if you wanted to curl the hair yourself)
  • Crochet needle
  • Watch a YouTube video (or two) to get an idea of how to do it if your still unsure. I embedded a good one below.
  1. Wash, condition and dry your hair completely.
  2. Put straight back corn rows in your hair. If you need help, enlist a friend or watch a YouTube video on how to cornrow hair for a crochet style.
  3. Starting from the bottom of a cornrow, take your crochet needle opened and slide it underneath the cornrow.
  4. Place a small piece of the synthetic hair in the needle and close it.
  5. Slide the needle back through the cornrow.
  6. In the loop you just created with the hair, take the loose end of the hair (on the other side of the cornrow) and tie a knot around the cornrow. You may want to make two knots to ensure the hair does not get too loose.
  7. Repeat steps 3-6 throughout your hair.
  8. Remember you oil your scalp after your done and keep it routinely oiled.
