Aleta’s Journey

My name is Aleta Barnes, originally NC, currently living in Gaithersburg, MD of USA. I’ve been natural for 2 and a half years now. I was always the ‘black girl with the long hair’ growing up until one day I decided to change that. I was tired of being a slave to the perm that my mother decided to put in my hair since I was 5 years old bc my hair was ‘too thick to manage’. It hasn’t been easy because I was so used to the length and equating that to beauty, but today I can truly say I am beautiful. I am not my hair, but I sure do love these curls & finding my inner beauty through my natural hair journey.

    OMG your hair story is my EXACT story to the T!! (except I just recently cut off the rest of my permed ends, so I’ve only been natural for about 1.5 weeks). But I totally can relate. My hair has been thick and long down my back since I was a little girl, and my mother couldn’t manage all my hair(hence why she gave me a perm)… But I am so glad I am fully natural!! loving my hair journey 🙂
